SJU hosts national seminar on skill development & entrepreneurship

Chümoukedima, October 18 (MExN): The Department of Economics of St Joseph University, Chümoukedima organised two-day national seminar on skill development and entrepreneurship in North East India organised on October 12 and 13. It was funded by ICSSR New Delhi, stated a press release from the university. 

The chief guest, Imnatiba Jamir, Advisor, Department of Industries and Commerce, Labour and Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of Nagaland highlighted the statistical report of the unemployed youths. He stated that 90% of the youths are unemployed due to lack of skills and also because the geographical region of NE is isolated.

Tali Longchar, Joint Director MSME Development Institute, Sovima village initiated the ‘talk on the successful entrepreneur.’ In the first technical session, the resource person Prof Mithilesh Kumar Sinha, Department of Economics, NU Lumami spoke on ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahatsav of skill India.’ Prof Giribabu M, Department of Economics, Mizoram University, spoke on ‘Skill India Special Schemes Promotes Economic Development and Progress in the North-East.’ 

On the second day, Dr Kinitoli Yepthomi, Dean of Academics SJU talked on the NEP. She advised the students that ‘we do not need to wait for opportunity, we have to go and search for all the open opportunities for us.’ The resource persons, Dr Jasojit Debnath, Associate Prof Bodoland University Assam spoke on ‘Rural Transformation and Employment Skills.’ Dr Subit Dutta, Associate Prof and Head Department of Commerce, Assam University shared that ‘entrepreneurs are people who see fresh business prospects and one willing to take any risk necessary to make those opportunities.’

SJU, Dean of Administration Dr Arockia Mary delivered the valedictory session address and it concluded with vote of thanks by Dr J Suresh Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, SJU.
