Peren, October 29 (MExN): KVK Peren under ICAR Research Complex for NER, Nagaland centre conducted a three-day skill development training programme on seed production technology of vegetable crops at Jalukielo village under Jalukie block, Peren from October 27 to 19.
According to a press release from KVK Peren, training was conducted to make the small scale farmers aware about the importance of seed production in vegetables and its avenue for income generation and self employment.
During the programme, Course Coordinator Dr Patu K Zeliang, ACTO PBG imparted training on package practices to be followed like seed selection, nursery preparation, transplanting, maintenance of isolation distance, etc and phytosanitary measures to be followed during harvesting and storage with emphasis on frenchbean, king chilly, and mustard for seed production.
Topic on pest and disease management in winter vegetable crops was taken up by Akam Zeliang, DPD ATMA, Peren.
Bamboo shoot pickle making was also demonstrated to the women farmers so that they could incorporate value addition of bamboo shoots during surplus season for better economic returns, the release informed.
Maize shellers for drudgery reduction and health care of women farmers during processing of maize were distributed along with Rabi season vegetable seeds. Twenty five women farmers attended the programme.
