Zunheboto, November 9 (MExN): The Sümi Hoho kick started its ‘Citizens Good Road Campaign’ with a brief flagging off ceremony at Zungti village junction on November 9.

Delivering the keynote address, Sümi Hoho President Nikheto Jimomi said that the project was initiated with a message to the Sümi community that even little contributions can add up and become big projects like the present campaign. Stating that the Hoho had confidence in the community to come through, he said that the responses were very encouraging and the project which will cover a distance of 60 kilometres has begun on both ends. Another group led by some of its members has started the work from Kandiniu in Tseminyu subdivision, he added.

President of Sümi Kukami Hoho Kashito Yepthomi, while lauding the Sümi Hoho for taking up such a challenging project, said that the project was not only for the Sümis but for all. As such, he urged every individual to come forward and join hands in this project. He called on the GBs present to convey the message to every village GB and cooperate in this initiative through other means like offering a glass of water, tea or even food to the workers, a press release from the Hoho’s Media Coordinator stated.

He also acknowledged the Zunheboto District Administration led by Deputy Commissioner Peter Lichamo for being supportive to the community expressed hope that in the future, black topping of the road can also be done with their support.

DC Lichamo who flagged off the project, was also appreciative of the Hoho for the initiative, terming it as a ‘new thing’ for him to witness. Although Zunheboto has many roads, there is little maintenance and this project would go a long way in ensuring that at least one proper road is maintained he added. He also expressed hoped that not only the Sümis but other Naga tribes would emulate this example

Meanwhile, earlier in the programme, Sümi Hoho General Secretary Dr Vihuto Asümi who chaired the programme, expressed gratitude to each and every individual for their contribution and added that the Hoho was very encouraged to see even students donating to the project. He also lauded the church associations, SBAK Nito Mount and SBAK Aizuto for appealing all the local churches to join hands in this project. Executive Secretary SBAK Nito Mount Rev Hukugha blessed the flagging off ceremony with the dedicatory prayer, the release stated.
