In yet another case of pig smuggling, slaughtered pig carcasses were confiscated in Dimapur. This time, the catch was affected by the NSCN (IM).

According to the Kilo Ministry of the NSCN (IM), its surveillance team on illicit trade and business received input about smuggling of pigs into Dimapur from Khatkhati. Acting on the information, it said that the surveillance unit intercepted two vehicles at Burma Camp at around 2:30 am, August 14.

The vehicles, a passenger autorickshaw and a car, were transporting six carcasses of slaughtered pig, reportedly, for supply to butchers in Dimapur. Five persons were apprehended.

It said that during interrogation of the apprehended persons, they claimed that the pigs were slaughtered in Assam and smuggled into Dimapur via Lahorijan-Burma Camp road.

“We could not ascertain whether the pigs were freshly slaughtered but one carcass was already rotting as per the stench,” said a functionary of the Kilo Ministry.

The apprehended persons were identified as Chandan Raut, Vikas Harijan, Roshan Kumar, Rakesh Kumar and Akash Dom, all residents of Sachu colony. They were later released.
