Dimapur, August 7 (MExN): Miffed by the Mr. O. Ibobi Singh government’s forceful imposition of the Autonomous District Council on the Nagas of Manipur state, the South Naga Union of Nagaland State (SNUNS) has outrightly condemned the resolutions of the consultative meeting called by the Manipur chief minister on August 3, 2010. This was stated in a press note issued by Ayo Vashum Vice President, SNUNS.
Reiterating the resolutions of the 3rd Naga People’s Convention held on July 1, 2010 at Senapati, the union vice president Ayo Vashum affirmed that the Nagas had already severed all political ties with the Manipur government backed by total political non-cooperation movement. Therefore the basis of attending any consultative meeting called by the government of Manipur does not arise, Vashum said and added that the ‘divisive ploy’ of Mr O. Ibobi Singh to first issue arrest warrants and rewards of 1 lakh against the presidents of UNC and ANSAM does not warrant a composite dialogue under the present decayed circumstances.
Ridiculing the invitation for consultative meetings SNUNS questioned as to how could an olive branch be extended and at the same time seek to hunt down the presidents of the UNC and ANSAM. Hitting out at the Centre for taking sides, the SNUNS has questioned the sincerity of the home ministry in listening to the appeals of the Nagas invariably having suffered for long under the Manipur government. The Centre should have suggested a common ground for the consultative meeting instead of taking sides and choosing Mr O. Ibobi Singh’s abode for the talks. Why couldn’t the consultative meeting be held at Senapati or New Delhi? the SNUNS questioned.
Elaborating on the economic blockade, the SNUNS said that any form of reaction of a group of people, when suppressed and made to forcefully tow the line, is quite logical and bears rationalism. The Manipur government should shoulder responsibility of providing essential commodities to the common man and therefore they take accountability for the economic blockade that may arise in the future.
