Two directorates in the state capital- Rural Development and Art & Culture have been connected with solar lighting system today by the state’s department of New & Renewable Energy (NRE) with 10 KW and 5 KW capacity recently.
These two directorates were among the list of 47 directorates for installing solar lighting system by the state’s NRE department this year.
Gracing the installation programme at the directorate of art & culture here this morning, art & culture and New & Renewable Energy advisor Deo Nukhu said that solar lighting system will be connected to all departments.
Nukhu said the state was allotted with a total capacity of 670 KW under solar power project. 100 KW each will be installed at the New Assembly Secretariat and Nagaland Legislative Assembly complex. It will cover the rest of the directorates with different capacity depending on the size and power requirement of the directorates.
Stating that NRE is relatively a new department, Nukhu said the department undertakes renewable energy project, mini hydel project, biomass, solar light etc.
In solar lighting system, there is no recurring charges nor electricity bill, he said adding that the system contributes environment friendly and “very economical.”
Stating that the solar lighting facility will also be made available to the public as well at low cost, he hoped that the public will come forward to avail the same as the government is offering subsidy.
In case of north eastern states, the state governments share is 10% while the rest 90% is from central government.
With all those facility and subsidy available to the region, he said the region should be grateful to the Government of India, Ministry of New & Renewable Energy.
He also called upon the gathering to envision that with the installation of 5KV Solar Lightning System at the Directorate of Art & Culture would showcase the necessity of solar energy as adequate electricity power supply is erratic and further to create an awareness of the mitigation of global warming.
Highlighting the impact of solar technology, NRE joint director Er. Kavito Chishi asserted that solar lighting system is a stable power supply and available at 24X7.
Also stressing on the need to take care of the devices, he also cautioned that the use of room heater be avoided.
Art & culture director K. Kughazhe Yeputhomi expressed happiness for owning solar lighting system in the directorate, which he said would facilitate the normal functioning of the office in giving prompt service to the government and the public in general in the days to come.
NRE director Er. T.S. Angami also spoke on the occasion. He announced the possibility of adding another 5 KW to this directorate as requested by the director of art & culture to cater the needs of the state museum. He however said that it depends on availability of space to install the necessary devices.
The programme was chaired by art & culture deputy director Vikheshe Sumi while V. Noudi proposed vote of thanks.
Later, additional chief secretary Banuo Z. Jamir inaugurated the 10 KW of solar lighting system at the Directorate of Rural Development in the presence of NRE officials and other dignitaries.
