Solution to Tobu imbroglio in sight

Chang, Konyak Tribal hohos evolve formula; relations normalized

DIMAPUR, DEC 11 (MExN): The leaders of both the Chang and Konyak communities along with the Special Committee members appointed specifically to resolve the contentions arising out of the Tobu land dispute will be meeting at Deithong Nalla, a strategically demarcated line with Upper Konyak villages of Mon District and Chang villages of Tuensang District located on either side along this point.

The meeting will also be attended by the public of neighbouring villages to pave the way for permanent solution, according to a joint statement issued by the Chang Khulei Shetsang (CKS) and the Konyak Union (KU), the apex tribal body representing the two tribes.

As a first step towards resolving the Tobu imbroglio, the leaders of both the tribe have evolved a formula to restore normal relations till a permanent solution to the dispute can be found.  

Jhum cultivation on the eastern side of the Deithong Nalla will go on and terrace fields along both sides of the Nalla will also continue to be cultivated, according to the statement. Leaders of both communities are to “control their people from resorting to any act of violence” and any wave of misbehavior or propaganda is to be sorted out after consultations among each other’s tribal bodies. The social organizations have warned that any individual indulging in unwanted activities will be doing so at his risk and such a person shall be dealt with by the government’s law enforcing agency. 

Re-affirming the age-old bond of friendship between the Changs and Konyaks, President of the Chang Khulei Shetsang N Kaimang Chang and his counterpart from the Konyak Union K Tingnei Konyak along with General Secretary of the Tuensang Mon People’s Organization W Lemba Chang issued a five point charter to this affect.
