Spl meet on Backward Regions Grant Fund

Dimapur, July 2 (MExN): A special meeting to discuss the Backward Regions Grant Fund (BRGF) was held on July 2 presided over by Chief Secretary Nagaland, Lalthara in Kohima. The meeting was held to discuss various critical issues and tasks required for effective planning and management of the BRGF programme ‘as required by the scheme guidelines,’ the Rural Development department informed today.

The BRGF is a “cent percent centrally sponsored program” funded by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Government of India. It is designed to redress regional imbalances in development and provides financial resources for supplementing and converging existing developmental inflows into identified districts. The BRGF programme was launched in Nagaland in the year 2007-08 and implemented in 2008-09. The districts covered under this Programme are, Tuensang, Mon, Longleng, Wokha and Kiphire.
The meeting discussed on the status report of BRGF, approval of Annual Action Plan (Development Grant) 2010-11, approval of  Annual Action Plan (Training and Capacity) of SIRD 2010-11 and Progress Report of Plan.

Director of SIRD Imnasenla Jamir gave a status report on the training and capacity-building under BRGF programme. Swedesenuo, S.A., NIC gave a demonstration of login at the district level, through the Plan Plus Website. Plan Plus is software, designed to enable participative decentralised planning at the grass-root level. “It enables online preparation of plans under various schemes and Programmes and brings about convergence leading to best value for money. NIC had designed the website in consultation with the Ministry of Panchayati Raj and it is divided into development schemes and capacity building. The state is already in implementation of the website and is already ahead of other states of the country,” the department said.
