DIMAPUR, MAY 26 (MExN): The Suruhoto Range Students’ Union (SRSU) conducted an inspection of government schools under Suruhuto area from May 22 to 24 and found them lacking in several basic facilities.
A press note from the SRSU informed that the inspection was conducted “through the concern” of the Advisor for Tourism and Art & Culture, H Khehovi Yepthomi “with an aim to eradicate the act of keeping proxy teachers as well as to strictly check on the attendance of the teachers.”
During the inspection of fourteen schools, the union observed lack of toilet facilities, drinking water facilities, school building renovation, auditorium hall etc in almost all the visited schools. It further expressed concern that while all the schools started functioning in the month of February, the books and uniforms were being issued only in the month of May.
The SRSU further cautioned teachers appointed under Suruhuto Range to strictly follow the resolutions passed by the union during its presidential meeting in January 2019. It warned that teachers who fail to do so would have their salaries withheld and they would be reported to the department for legal course of action.
It also asked the Village School Management Committee (SMC) to co-operate with the resolutions passed by the union for the betterment of society. The union appealed to the School Education Department that transfer of teacher in Suruhuto area should not be practiced, as in most schools there is shortage of teachers.
The department was also asked to provide immediate replacement of teachers to those schools that are functioning with shortage of teachers, especially subject teachers, due to their transfer for the last few years.
During the inspection, the union also met village authorities and discussed their grievances. Meanwhile, it also inspected the ongoing road construction from Asukho to Suruhuto and assured full co-operation to the road works. It asked the concerned department and the contractor to provide quality work as per the DPR.
