Graduating students and faculty members gathered during the 36th Graduation Day ceremony at St. Joseph's College (Autonomous), Jakhama, on October 10.
Jakhama, October 11 (MExN): St Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama, celebrated its 36th Graduation Day at the College Indoor Stadium on October 10, with graduating students, college management, faculty members, guests and well-wishers gathering to mark the occasion.
The programme was hosted by Meiling Shükshühü and Kepozo Kapuh. It began with an invocation by Dr Sr Laly Varghese, Assistant Professor in the Department of English, followed by a welcome song presented by the campus hostellers.
In his welcome address, Principal Dr Fr George Keduolhou Angami congratulated the graduates and described graduation as a recognition of perseverance, commitment and hard work, as well as the fulfilment of aspirations. He encouraged them to regard their degrees as a foundation for further learning, service and personal growth. He also welcomed the special guest, B. Henok Buchem, NCS, Deputy Commissioner of Kohima.
The Konyak Cultural Troupe of the college presented a folk dance showcasing Naga culture. Rev Fr Felix Monteiro, SJ, Principal of Loyola Higher Secondary School, Jakhama, offered blessings for the graduates. A musical performance by Mehiwa Magh, who presented “Sing Me Back Home”, followed.
A message to the graduates was delivered by Heshou Dihe Mao, Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science. The conferring of awards was conducted by Dr Sr K. Katini, Vice Principal for Academic Affairs, recognising the academic achievements of deserving students.
Valedictorian Kétüzo Dawhuo of the Department of Economics reflected on his college experience and expressed gratitude to the institution and its faculty for their guidance and support throughout his academic journey.
Addressing the gathering, special guest B Henok Buchem shared reflections on life, perseverance and the importance of determination in achieving one’s goals. Drawing from his personal and family experiences, he highlighted the influence of upbringing and the sacrifices made by family members in shaping an individual’s journey.
He encouraged the graduates to view the occasion not merely as the culmination of their academic studies but as the beginning of a new chapter. He emphasised the importance of learning from life’s experiences, remaining committed to their aspirations and facing the future with courage and responsibility.
Certificates and souvenirs were distributed to the graduates, formally recognising the completion of their academic journey. The vote of thanks was delivered by Kethoneino Vimero, Cultural Secretary of the Students’ Council, who expressed gratitude to the special guest, college authorities, faculty members, organisers, participants and others who contributed to the event.
