St. Joseph’s, Saku’s Mission move to quarter finals, New Market enters pre-quarter

Kohima | October 18 : The St. Joseph’s College Jakhama and Saku’s Mission College Dimapur today found the quarter finals berth while New Market XI moved into pre-quarter finals after winning their respective matches in the ongoing 12th NSF Martyrs Memorial Trophy 2011 here at the Kohima Local Ground.
St. Joseph’s College Jakhama defeated Tsiekedi SC 4-0 in the Ist pre-quarter finals of the tournament. Chanku Konyak opened the account for St. Joseph’s College Jakhama in the 11th minute and the team registered the increase in its score tally through Singyang Konyak (19th minute), Petevituo Kire (25th) and Michael Seb (64th minute).
Saku’s Mission College, Dimapur defeated Nagaland Police 1-0 in the 2nd pre-quarter finals match. The winning goal for Saku’s Mission College came through Tingnyek in the 32nd minute.
St. Joseph’s College Jakhama and Saku’s Mission College Dimapur will meet in the quarter finals on October 21. In the third match of day, New Market XI moved into pre-quarters after defeating The Spartans Lower Agri 4-0.
Mhasilie contributed two goals for New Market XI in 12th and 56th minute while Stephen and Tosovi netted a goal each for the team in 41st and 52nd minutes respectively.
With today’s win, New Market XI will clash with Excel United in the pre-quarter finals on October 20. Earlier, Er. Saku Aier, parliamentary secretary for housing, labour & employment also present at the 2nd pre- quarter finals match.
Mentionably, the tournament will conclude on October 29. Organized annually by Angami Students’ Union (ASU), in reminiscence and tribute to the two students’ comrades, this years’ edition also commemorates with the 25th anniversary of the slain martyrs Lt. Kekuojalie Sachü & Lt. Vikhozo Yhoshü, who made the supreme sacrifice in the year 1986, while on the duty call of the Naga Students’ Federation in its fight for justice and rights of the students’ community.
The champion will carry a cash prize of Rs. 1, 25,000 while the runners-up will fetch Rs. 80,000. Losing quarter-finalist will receive Rs. 6,000 while semi-finalists will get 10,000.
