Kohima, October 21 (MExN): A state level orientation and sensitization programme for District Education officials under the Nagaland Education Project (NEP)- The Lighthouse was conducted on October 21 at Hotel de Oriental, Kohima with the aim to inform the participants and on-board them on the project.
The day-long programme saw attendance from District Education Officers (DEO), Sub-District Education Officers (SDEO), EBRC coordinators and Assistant District Coordinators (ADC) from all 12 districts of the state. A total of 108 participants comprising of district education officials, and the state project team, attended the programme.
Informing the participants about the NECTAR project, Shanavas C, Principal Director, Department of School Education and Project Director, NEP provided an overview of the NEP- the Lighthouse project. He further informed the participants about the implementation plans and progress within the project so far. The key components, results matrix and programme tools were introduced by the Project Director.
Razouseyi Vese, Additional Director, Directorate of School Education urged the district officers to actively engage themselves and encourage them to be forthcoming in making the project a success.
A Training of Trainers (ToT) session on ‘Coping up with COVID 19 pandemic’, measures for prevention and control in schools was conducted by Dr Longri Kichu, State Consultant, UNICEF (DH&FW). Similar session on COVID-19 will take place block-wise in the EBRC office in all the blocks for school leaders, a press statement from the Principal Director informed. This training will percolate down to the school level where the trained school leaders will conduct the COVID-19 training for the school staff.
1990 Government schools and over 20,000 teaching and non-teaching staff are targeted to be covered by end of November 2021, it added.
Johnny Ruangmei, OSD NSDMA spoke on ‘School safety and Disaster Management’ with emphasis on reducing risks and impacts by maintaining school level Disaster Risk Reduction plan. Other sessions during the programme focused on Environmental and Social Management Framework (ESMF), Roles and Responsibilities of the participating stakeholders and Setting up Information Desk.
About Nagaland Education Project -The Lighthouse (NECTAR)
With support from World Bank, the Department of School Education launched the ‘Nagaland Education Project- The Lighthouse - Nagaland Enhancing Classroom Teaching and Resources (NECTAR)’, with the aim to improve and enhance quality and learning outcomes of Government schools in Nagaland.
As per the release, NEP- The Lighthouse is a project that will breathe new life into the education system of the state, providing greater opportunity for students and teachers to realise their potential. Through this project, the government aims to:
• Enhance the governance of schools across the state
Improving system and school management for all 2000 schools of Nagaland, to improve state school governance index
• Improvement in Teaching and Enhancement of Overall learning environment
Enhancing the teaching and learning environment in approximately 15 school complexes, to demonstrate school improvement efforts, learnings from which can be scaled in future.
