State govt should clarify on ‘RSS backed programme’ at Nagaland House: RPP

Dimapur, December 22 (MExN): The Rising People’s Party (RPP) today demanded a clarification from the Nagaland State Government regarding a pre-Christmas programme held on December 16 at Nagaland House, New Delhi.

According to reports, the RSS-backed Bharatiya Christian Manch organised the programme and during the same, RSS leader Indresh Kumar allegedly passed remarks on conversion provoking angry reactions from the United Christian Forum (UFS), a press release from the RPP maintained.

The UFS is an umbrella body of Christian organisations that monitors human rights violation against Christians in India, it said.

The 16 December programme seems to have been a propaganda meeting propagating a political agenda and the controversial programme made headlines in most of the national daily newspapers, the RPP stated.

“This avoidable controversy has soiled the image of Nagaland for which the state government is solely responsible,” it maintained.

In this connection, the RPP condemned the usage of Nagaland House for alleged “religious propaganda and political party activities.”

“Except for official functions of the state government, no Nagaland House in any part of India is permitted to allow political party activities within its premises and such is highly condemnable,” it said.

The moot question is, who authorised the use of Nagaland House for hosting this politically inclined so-called Pre-Christmas celebration?, RRP posed.

Who were the state co-organisers of the programme? The State Government is expected to issue a clarification on the issue, it asserted.

Given the ramifications, the State Government should apologise to the people of the state and immediately issue a notification debarring such activities in Nagaland Houses’ in the future, it added.
