Dimapur, April 28 (MExN): The government of Nagaland has decided to set up a high-level inquiry into the alleged “assault” of the deputy commissioner of Wokha on April 21 by a mob from Longsa village in Wokha. The Nagaland state Cabinet met on April 28 at the chief minister’s official residence and took a decision to instate a probe. Another decision that the government took was to appeal to the Gauhati high court against its judgment to hold the State’s municipal polls within 30 days.
“The Cabinet discussed the assault by the unruly mob of Longsa villagers on the person of Shri Rovilatuo Mor, Deputy Commissioner, Wokha, while he was performing his official duties in Wokha, and the law and order situations and public tensions arising out of the assault,” the chief minister’s office said in a communiqué today.
“The Cabinet decided that a high level Inquiry Committee may be set up urgently to go into the causes and circumstances leading to the incident of assault, to fix responsibilities for the incident, and find out if there had been any dereliction of duty by any public servant etc. and to recommend measures to avoid recurrence of such incidents in future.”
The committee is Principal Secretary for Agriculture & APC HK Khulu as chairman and Commissioner & Secretary for Horticulture Sentiyanger Imchen and Joint Secretary for Law and Justice Namjok Konyak as members. The committee is to submit their report within 15 days to the government.
