State HIV prevalence rate is 1.27%

Kohima, December 6 (MExN): Presenting the latest HIV/AIDS scenario in Nagaland, till October 2008, Neitho, Monitoring Officer, Kripa revealed that HIV prevalence rate is 1.27%. A total of 1,96,448 persons have undergone blood screen in ICTCs wherein  7,205 have tested positive and a total of 444 AIDS related deaths has been recordso far. 

The Monitoring Officer was addressing the Network of Kohima District People Living with HIV/AIDS (KNP+) at a one day sensitization and awareness programme with HQ 15 BRTF High School Kohima on December 5 held at 15 BRTF Conference Hall. The programme was supported by District Aids Control Committee (DACC). Altogether 100 participants attended the programme. Neitho also encouraged the gathering  not to discriminate those infected but rather show care and support as ‘the only difference is the virus and not the person.’ He said that that there is no vaccine to cure the virus; the only thing is that one should be well informed with the right knowledge about HIV/AIDS. He also added that those infected should avail the services and treatment in time. 

Abel, President KNP+ in a release said that Dr. Sanjeev Kumar of 15 BRTF in his speech said that it is high time one should be watchdog of oneself because HIV/AIDS is increasing day by day. Kenie, a positive also shared his testimony. Earlier, welcome speech was delivered by Anu, Social Worker KNP+. Seyie, General Secretary KNP+ also spoke during the programme.
