Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio on Tuesday said lack of ‘desired funds’ for building and maintaining the existing alternative routes from Dimapur to Kohima was the main cause for putting the state in its current situation.
Speaking to media persons at a function here in Dimapur, the chief minister also contended that commercial heavy vehicle cannot ply on the alternative roads in question, which are narrow, therefore making it economically unviable as well.
The two known alternative roads currently in existence are from 7th Mile, Chümoukedima-Shokhuvi - Razaphe - Mhaikam - Pimla - Mhainamtsi – Jharnapani under Medziphema and Dimapur-Niuland-Kohima road via Zadima.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister noted that the fragile nature of the Pakala Pahar stretch should have been taken into consideration during construction. “The name itself, Pakala Pahar, many accidents have been happening from earlier days. So when we construct the road and cut vertically, it is very dangerous. Technically, steps should have been developed,” he viewed.
