In field of rural economy, a very encouraging and positive situation has emerged in pockets areas, by way of availability of micro-credit to the rural people through same enterprising and innovative young generation entrepreneurs.

According to the state’s department of cooperation, these people started their venture by extending small scale loans/credit to individuals and today they have made themselves instrumental in formation of Self Help Groups (SHG), mostly among women.

“Significantly there has been a upsurge in the agricultural and allied sector activities as well as non-farm activities in the state,” the report said adding the micro- credit requirements of the rural people who are active participants in economic activities are being enhanced by the availability of micro-credit through these key players.

The department felt that the need of micro- credit and small scale financing can be catered properly by strengthening the thrift and credit cooperative societies, whose objectives are similar.

In this connection, the department proposes to make it into a Public Private Partnership venture. Hence, registration of state level thrift and credit cooperative federation is in the pipeline to set up during 2009-10.
