Mon, June 25 (DIPR): One day seminar cum workshop on Community Policing was held at DC’s conference hall, Mon on June 22 with Toshitsungba Aier, IPS, DIG (R/NAP) as the resource person.
Briefing on crime and corruption in the state, Toshitsungba Aier said that the State needs a very strong community policing to maintain peace and development in the state. In order to reduce crime and corruption in the state, Nagas need a very strong public opinion and the duty of the community policing is not only to control crime alone but also to check corruption prevailing in the Government agencies and effectively implementation of developmental schemes, he added.
Informing that there is a positive responds from the people for community policing during his visit to other districts, the resource person urged upon the NGOs and the civil societies to take part in the community policing by assisting the police and the administration in maintaining law and order in the state. He informed that Community policing is a voluntary service to assist Police and the administration to check crime and corruption.
Mr. Aier also informed that Community Policing in Nagaland is slowly eroded over the years due to various issue. He pointed out that the main reasons for deterioration of community policing is mushrooming of developmental activities without accountability, Loyalty with district administration has changed over the years, trust deficit, insurgency activities, large scale corruption responsible for deterioration of law and order, etc..
In his power point presentation, the DIG briefed on the historical and legal background of Community Policing, its basic concept and community policing in Nagaland and other state.
Earlier Deputy Commissioner, Mon Angau I Thou in her short speech lauded the DIG for conducting the seminar for awareness to the people. She cited that without the consolidate effort of the NGOs and the Civil societies the Police and the administration alone cannot do everything. She seeks a strong partnership between public and Private to curb crime and corruption. She also cited that everyone as a responsible citizen should maintain peace and tranquility to pave way for development.
The seminar concluded with healthy discussion and interaction with the resource person.
The Seminar cum workshop was attended by the Government officers, Assam Rifles, all ranks and files of DEF Mon and 6th NAP Tizit, NGOs, Ward leaders, DBs & GBs and other public leaders of the district. Earlier welcome address was proposed by S.P, Mon and invocation by District Chaplain. The programme concluded with vote of thanks by the Dy. Comdt. 6th NAP Tizit.
