State tally rises to 1084, active cases at 598

Out of 513 samples tested, 57 positive cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Nagaland on Wednesday. 

 

23 of the new cases were reported in Dimapur while 18 were in Kohima and 7 were reported in Zunheboto. Peren district also reported 5 new cases while Mon and Mokokchung reported 2 cases each.

 

One case of recovery was also reported from Mokokchung on July 22.

 

According to updates from the Principal Secretary (Home), Abhijit Sinha, the total number of infections in the state now stands at 1,084. Out of this, 598 cases are active while 486 have recovered.

 

As per the severity of symptoms, 594 active cases are asymptomatic and 2 active cases are mild and 1 active case is moderate. 1 symptomatic case is said to be on ventilator support.

 

Seikhazou Colony in Kohima sealed

A resident of Seikhazou Colony in Kohima tested positive for COVID-19 today and was admitted at the NHAK COVID Hospital in Kohima. The patient is said to be asymptomatic.

 

According to reliable sources, the person is said to have travelled to Peren for work and returned to Kohima recently. Sources ruled out the patient's contact with any positive person in Kohima. Contact tracing is currently underway. 

 

Following this, the Kohima Deputy Commissioner has sealed the colony in order to contain the spread of disease/infection and to expedite necessary contact tracing of the infected person.

 

The demarcated area includes Seikharü tri-junction in the north, Circular road in the east, Circular road towards main town in the west and Kerülei Ki (Prayer Center) in the south.

 

All movement of persons/vehicles within the defined “sealed area” is strictly restricted/prohibited for public movement and is placed under active medical surveillance. 

 

Octogenarian patient on ventilator at COVID-19 Hospital Dimapur

The 82-year old patient who tested positive for COVID-19 positive on July 18 and was admitted in the ICU of COVID-19 Hospital Dimapur on July 19 is in critical condition and on ventilator support.

 

The patient was treated on July 16 at Shamrock Hospital and on July 17 at Nikos Hospital and Eden Medical Centre, where he was tested positive for COVID-19 by TrueNat.

 

A DIPR report stated the patient has comorbid conditions including diabetes and past history of open heart surgery and pulmonary tuberculosis.

 

The patient has a typical COVID lung picture with respiratory distress and is on ventilator support, it said.

 

According to the DIPR report, Dimapur Medical Superintendent Dr Kheshito said the patient is critical with unstable blood pressure yet other vitals are maintained. He said treatment protocol is being followed for COVID-19 patient on ventilator.

 

The patient is being monitored by a medical team comprising of one doctor, 2 nurses and 2 attendants on 8 hourly rotation basis, the MS informed.

 

He also sought prayer support from one and all for speedy recovery of the patient, the report stated.
