Dimapur | January 26
AS OF now, the proposed shut-down of electricity throughout Nagaland that was put for January 28 has been deferred. Confirming this, an official in the North East Regional Load Dispatch Centre (NERLDC), Shillong, the regulatory body which decides how much power is to be distributed to which northeastern state, today said that due to other engagements, the proposal of the State Government to carry out maintenance works on January 28 was not accepted. A future date has not been decided upon. The official said they were awaiting a proposal for a date from the Nagaland government in this regard.
Chief Engineer (Power) T A Shisa, when contacted, told The Morung Express that he had received a verbal confirmation from his juniors that Shillong had rescheduled the date of a total power blackout in Nagaland. Initially, the maintenance works were to be done on January 23.
But according to the Chief Engineer, he had turned down the suggestion due to the fact that the date coincided with former Chief Secretary AM Gokhale’s visit. And subsequently due to other functions and Republic Day celebrations, the date for the maintenance works was proposed for January 28. The Power Grid, owing to other schedules, had turned down this date.
Meanwhile, Moa Aier, Executive Engineer, Electrical Transmission Division, Dimapur said the power situation in Nagaland had improved owing to the purported repair of the pipelines of the Kathalguri thermal power station which is one of the major stations which supplies electricity to Nagaland during winter months. For this apparent reason, load shedding was minimized considerably today. However, general load shedding would continue for another two months or so, according to the Executive Engineer.
