DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 16 (MExN): The Shamator Town Public Forum (STPF) has come out in support of the Yimkhiung Tribal Council’s (YTC) representation and subsequent letters to the Nagaland Government to expedite upgrading Shamator town to a district as assured.
A press release from the STPF urged the Nagaland Government to expedite the matter with concern and fulfill the “long cherished aspirations of Yimkhiung as assured by the State Government.”
“It may be recalled that the Yimkhiung Tribal Council has been relentless entreating in all earnest for upgradation of Shamator town to full-fledged district since several years. On several occasions, Yimkhiung Tribal Council have submitted and apprised the State Government on the matter, accordingly the State Government in principle had also assured for upgradation of the same,” the STPF reminded.
The council said that it is the “desire and aspirations of Yimkhiung to live under one administrative headquarter,” and urged the State Government that “all Yimkhiung administrative headquarters be incorporated in the proposed Shamator district upgradation.” It further reminded that the Yimkhiung community submitted a public referendum on December 2 and 3 at Shamator town and Pungro town respectively. The STPF therefore “unanimously reaffirmed” their “resolute stand for upgradation of Shamator ADC HQ to District Hq wholeheartedly without any condition.”
