‘Strengthening women farmers in Mokokchung’

Recognizing the contribution and efforts made by the women farmers towards agriculture development and food security in Mokokchung District, Women Farmers' Day was celebrated at MMC Shopping Complex on October 15.  

The event was organized by Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Mokokchung in co-ordination with Agri & Allied Departments, Watsu Mungdang, NSRLM, NABARD and SBI.  

The programme segments included ‘Mahila Kisan Mela’ where farm products of sixteen women groups and individual farmers from different villages were brought in for sale and a seminar on ‘Strengthening women farmer in Mokokchung’ was held after the formal programme.  

The celebration also witnessed recognition of women farmers with awards and citation under the District Level Best Women Farmer Awards and District Level Best Women Farmer Group Awards which was given away by special invitee Sachin Jaiswal, Mokokchung DC and Chairman, Governing Board, ATMA Mokokchung.  

Jaiswal in his speech congratulated the women farmers for their contributions and further encouraged the womenfolk's to join hands towards making the district a "Food Basket" for all.  

He also urged all the stakeholders to work in coordination for the welfare of the women farmers in the District.  

Earlier, Temsuienla, Joint Director, State Agricultural Research Station (SARS), Yisemyong delivered the welcome address and District Agriculture officer & PD ATMA, Mokokchung said the acknowledgement note and H Hanshing, Asst. General Manager, SBI, RBO spoke on the Area Development Schemes in the programme chaired by Dr Imchalemla, AHO & BTT Convener, ATMA, Ongpangkong South Block.  

In the technical seminar, Dr Lanunochetka, Dy. DAO Mokokchung spoke on the "Avenues for self-employment for women in Agriculture" while S Amarjit Mangang, District Development Manager, NABARD and Chinlianthang Ngaithe, Chief Manager, SBI Bazar Branch spoke on "Farmer Producer Organization and Cluster Development" and “Credit Linkage Service for Women Farmers," respectively. Success and achievement stories were also shared by farmers during the seminar where C Amongla Jamir Block Technology Manager, ATMA Mokokchung Block was the moderator.
