Student body breathes fire over cabinet decision

Wokha: The Lotha Students’ Union (LSU), while reaffirming its commitment to work for the larger interest and welfare of the people has reiterated its demand that the Government of Nagaland should immediately revoke the Cabinet Decision to shift the entire 7th Nagaland Police Battalion from Wokha District without any further delay.

The LSU is of the conviction that the decision of the Cabinet would cause irreparable damage to the well being of the people in the district. It may be mentioned that the apex Lotha Students’ body had earlier submitted a memorandum to the Home Minister of Nagaland on 2 August.

The memorandum cited the major damages that could be caused as a consequence of the Cabinet decision and had strongly registered its objection to the Cabinet Decision. The LSU had appealed to the higher authority to immediately take an initiative in revoking the Cabinet Decision.

After having realized that the ‘Decision to revoke’ had not been taken as of now, the LSU has repeated its appeal to the Government to take cognizance of the irrefutable and imperative needs of the people’s interest and facilitate the process to revoke the Cabinet Decision unconditionally.

The LSU has further cautioned that nonchalant and dithery attitude in this matter would invite serious repercussions for which the Government of Nagaland would be held solely responsible.

Further, the student body has declared that the proposed 12 hour total Bandh at Wokha District will be observed on 23 August from 6AM to 6 PM, if the Government fails to honour the LSU demands by 20 August 2005.

The demands of the LSU are the immediate construction of the Wokha-Merapani Road, Abundant Power Supply at Wokha District from Doyang Hydro Electric Project and the Revocation of the Cabinet Decision to shift the 7th NAP Battalion from Wokha. The LSU has also cautioned that the second phase of the democratic agitation will be intensified if the Government of Nagaland turns a deaf ear to meet the needs of the people.

In this regard, the LSU has requested the public to cooperate for the success of the said Bandh.
