DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 5 (MExN): Two student-centric workshops under the theme ‘Vocationalisation of Higher Education’ were held at Dimapur Government College in collaboration with the PM–USHA Monitoring Cell on September 4.
The first workshop on Rain Water Harvesting and Underground Water Recharging was conducted by Myingthungo, Geologist, Directorate of Geology and Mining. Highlighting reasons for water scarcity in Dimapur, he cited the mushrooming of bottling plants, car washes, water parks and construction sites. He noted that ground water depletion is also evident in the drying up of wells, reduction of water levels in lakes and rivers, deterioration of water quality, rising pumping costs and land subsistence.
He stressed on good practices such as rain water harvesting, artificial recharging of aquifers, creating awareness, and avoiding excessive use of pesticides and weedicides to improve water quantity and quality. The session was chaired by Opangmenla, Department of Philosophy, with a welcome address by Diethoseu Mepfhou and a vote of thanks by George Kire, Department of Commerce.
The second workshop on The Entrepreneurial Journey: From Idea to Execution was conducted by Er John Ruokuongulie, Manager, Nagaland Tools and Training Centre, Dimapur. He observed that despite Nagaland’s cultural heritage, natural resources and market avenues, local entrepreneurs face meagre appreciation and challenges in execution. While Nagas do not lack ideas, he said, the gap lies in planning and market understanding, starting with problem identification and solution-driven approaches.
The session was chaired by Limanaro, Department of Education, with a welcome address by Dr Meripeni Ngully, Department of History, and a vote of thanks by Dr Amongla N Jamir.
