DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 27 (MExN): A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on December 20 by the Tobu Area Students' Union, the Naga Students' Organization (Myanmar), and the All Pangsha Students' Union. The agreement, aimed at fostering cooperation, enhancing relationships, and ensuring peace in the region, emphasizes free movement, developmental collaboration, and combating illegal activities.
The three organizations condemned the scrapping of the Free Movement Regime (FMR) and strongly opposed the proposed border fencing within their jurisdiction. They reiterated their commitment to upholding and enhancing free movement to sustain the brotherhood among Naga communities across the East-West stretch of Naga areas.
“We shall not impose barriers that hinder the mutual benefits of free movement. The relationship among Nagas as a whole must remain unhindered,” read the agreement.
The MoU also highlighted a joint venture to promote developmental activities in the region. Recognizing the adverse impact of illegal drug activities and other anti-social elements, the signatories committed to eradicating such threats and addressing environmental protection collaboratively.
The International Trade Centre (ITC) Dan was declared a peace zone under the agreement. The student leaders assured that they would collectively ensure the area remains peaceful and condemned any efforts to disrupt this status.
The MoU was signed by Ngaupu A, Vice President of the Tobu Area Students' Union; Naogang Nangsa, President of the Naga Students' Organization (Myanmar); and Hime Lam, President of the All Pangsha Students' Union.
