‘Students’ service for 2011 census’

Dimapur, July 3 (MExN): The Chief Secretary of Nagaland Lalthara, IAS, today hinted that the census for year 2011 may be undertaken not by ‘government servants and teachers’ but by students in the state. Hinting this at the valedictory function of the 17th DNSU general conference, the Nagaland chief secretary said he has been discussing the matter with the state chief minister. Implying that the last census of the state was inflated, Lalthara asserted that providing inflated census “like the last census” would make the state a laughing stock to other states. In this regard, Lalthara hinted that the state would employ the students’ community in collecting the census of the state.

He asserted that the state can use educated youths, university students and volunteers, who would be given a few months’ training, and be deputed to a selected area to collect the census. Lalthara said the government is in ‘consultation’ with various students’ unions and the Naga Students’ Federation about the matter. “This is a big challenge and we will discuss with the students’ unions and the NSF,” the state chief secretary asserted, while asking the students’ community to help the state government in collecting the census.
