Students urged to be instrument of change at SRSU's conference

Dimapur, January 11 (MExN): The Sakipheto Range Students' Union (SRSU) held its 19th general conference from January 7 – 9 at Hekheshe Village with the theme ‘Envisioning Future Competence.’


Special guest of the event, I Himato Zhimomi, IFS, Principal Secretary, Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Government of Nagaland challenged the students to be an instrument of change for the society.


In his speech, he reminded the students that “money is temporary but knowledge and wisdom is permanent.”
He focused on the major impact of ‘Act East Policy’ on Asian Highways for Sakipheto Range and encouraged the students to make use of the given opportunity, a press release from SRSU stated.


Zhimomi also hoisted the flag of the conference.


Prof Dr Akali Sema, Dean SASRD Nagaland University, Medziphema was the main speaker and spoke on the session theme – ‘Envisioning Future Competence.’


She motivated the congregation to be competent in this fast paced growing world, while stating that “skill wouldn't take us far.”


Other guest speakers included Dr Hotokhu Chishi, Director Dept of Health and Family Welfare who spoke on the theme – ‘Present Status of Sümi.’


K Hollen Yeptho, business entrepreneur was the guest speaker with the theme – ‘Towards A New Horizon.’
She motivated the students to “always put God first” in their life and to spread love, while reminding “life without a purpose is nothing.”


Yeptho also stressed on the importance of cultural ethnicity and emphasized on how negative effects of social media is pertinent in the society. 


The 3-day long session concluded by Dr KakhetoZhimo, President, Western Sümi Hoho as a guest speaker who spoke on the theme – ‘Rejuvenation of Heritage.’ 


Atokiho Swu President, All Sumi Students Union, Lhojeli Ayemi, President, Sumi Totimi Hoho Sakipheto Area also exhorted the students. 


Indigenous games, sports, literary and cultural items were conducted during the conference. More than 100 students representing 7 units of the Union attended the conference. Kupuhe village was crowned the overall champion.
