Dimapur, August 2 (MExN): The “western” Sumi youth front has reacted to a picture descriptive for the ceasefire story which appeared in local English daily on August 1 (not The Morung Express). The story of the GoI-NSCN (IM) concluding an agreement was prescribed by a picture of a Muslim holding up a Naga Hoho placard that read ‘we want sincerity from GoI.’
A note from the Western Sumi Youth Organization stated that the Naga political dialogue is of such nature that the news item and the picture should be to let the world know who the Naga people are and their aspirations on which they have been fighting for. While extending full solidarity and support to the Naga cause, the front made clear that the picture is an insult on the cultural identity of the Nagas and sentiments of all right-thinking Nagas.
The youth front queried the intellectual integrity behind highlighting such a picture. “Were there only non-Nagas at the rally? Or was only one picture taken during the entire rally?” queried WSYF president Kakiye Zhimo and press secretary Mughavi Chishi. While acknowledging the respect due to the press fraternity, the front made clear that no tolerance would be shown if the Naga cause and their identity is replaced by people who have no relevancy to the Naga cause.
