KOHIMA, November 17 (MExN): Non-profit organisation Sunbird Trust has completed a scholarship distribution drive, providing financial aid to 1,000 children across 26 government schools in the Eastern Nagaland region.
The drive, conducted from November 12 to 15, saw each student receiving a scholarship of Rs 1,200, the trust said in a statement on Monday.
The initiative was supported by a major corporate donor, with the Investment & Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN) and Eleutheros Christian Society (ECS) facilitating the implementation by identifying government schools in the remotest villages to ensure smooth execution.

A six-member team from the trust, along with IDAN officials, travelled to these remote areas, often navigating difficult terrains, to personally hand over the scholarship amount to parents. The initiative was specifically designed to ensure that financial assistance reaches families who need it the most.
A parent from Tangnyu village in Mon district said, “I have two children. We have not received any scholarship before, so this means a lot. It will help my daughter in her studies. I will use this entire amount only for her studies.”
Aliasgar Huseini Janjali, CEO of Sunbird Trust, said, “With sponsorships such as these, Sunbird Trust is ensuring that students from the remotest parts of our country get a fighting chance to achieve their dreams and an opportunity to create a pathway full of possibilities.”

Established in 2014, Sunbird Trust is a non-religious and apolitical not-for-profit organisation working in remote and conflict-affected parts of North East India with the motto of 'Peace through Education'.
