Just months after its reopening on February 2, 2025, the surface of the ‘rehabilitated’ Road Over Bridge (RoB) along NH-29 near the Dimapur District Sports Council (DDSC) is already showing signs of significant surface distress as observed on August 24.
The approach from the DDSC side is pockmarked with deep craters (Images 1-2), while the bridge’s mid-section, though slightly more stable, remains uneven. The opposite end is no better, with more pronounced signs of surface distress including visible cracks, erosion, water runoff (Image 3) and culminates with a large pothole near the merging traffic point (Image 4).
The rehabilitation works of the RoB were undertaken between October 1, 2024, and February 1, 2025, by Innovative Construction under the supervision of the Public Works Department (PWD), National Highway Division, at an estimated cost of Rs 2.6 crore. It is unclear whether responsibility for maintenance lies with the contractor or the Department, or if the structural integrity of the bridge is being regularly monitored. (Morung Photos)
