As on March 1, 2021, Nagaland has: 
•    1280 recognised villages
•    75 unrecognised villages
•    111 hamlets

Kohima, December 21 (MExN): The Directorate of Economics & Statistics, Government of Nagaland on Tuesday released its publication ‘Survey on the number of villages in Nagaland 2021.’ As per the survey there are 1280 recognised villages, 75 unrecognised villages and 111 hamlets as on March 1, 2021.

According to a press release, the survey was released by Sentiyanger lmchen, IAS, ACS & Finance Commissioner, on December 21 in his office chamber, Secretariat, Kohima. 

The survey was undertaken by the Directorate of Economics & Statistics covering all villages and habitations in the State, it stated. 

It added that realising the need for such a survey on account of lack of clarity and varying number of villages with the various departments, Sentiyanger Imchen, the then Additional Chief Secretary and Development Commissioner conceptualized the survey.
