Tackle substance abuse with initiatives based on prevailing social conditions

Mon, January 22 (MExN): State Co-ordinator for Programme Monitoring Units (PMU) of Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, Dr Pankaj Gupta visited Mon district on January 20 and 21 and held meetings with the District Administration and Master Volunteers of Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign on January 21.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Pankaj highlighted the important role of Master Volunteers in tackling substance abuse in the country. He encouraged the volunteers to provide continuous feedback and undertake initiatives best suited to the prevailing social conditions, a DIPR report stated.

Assistant Director, Directorate of Social Welfare, Wango Konyak also addressed the house and assured the District Administration that the department would support and assist in the fight against substance abuse. He commended the district on the activities undertaken so far and encouraged the Church and civil societies to undertake activities focused on steering the people away from substance abuse, the report stated.

Earlier, Mon SDO (Civil) Ilika Zhimomi briefed the house on the calendar of events scheduled under Nasha Mukt Bharat which are aimed at creating awareness about the ill effects of substance abuse, among the general public. She also gave a presentation on the activities and initiatives undertaken in the district.
