Learning outside can give a great opportunity to teach children about the reality and perspective of humanity. By taking learning beyond the classroom, it creates dozens of opportunities to make learning relevant by putting them into a more realistic context.

With this objective as the heart of the mission, a weeklong ‘Kindness Lessons’ is held annually at Blossoms Preschool, Mokokchung.

“Kindness Lessons is a part of the curriculum and it not only deals with teaching the children about being kind, to share and to love people within the four walls of the classroom but it is also a time where the parents come together with the school authority and donate whatever and however they can to be a blessing to someone in need,” said Sashinungla, Administrator of Blossoms Preschool, Mokokchung.

“It gives an opportunity for the children to practically experience sharing and thus inculcating the skills of kindness,” she said. “Besides, experts say that children between 2-4 years are at their genius stage, which means we as teachers and caregivers should make sure that this is taken care of,” she added.

This year the Blossom’s Kindness Lessons was undertaken from August 6 to 14. The children along with the school staffs visited families in the neighborhood, an Old Age Recreational Center (for elderly men) at Ungma and also the Khensa Baptist Church and Kupza Baptist Church where they interacted with elderly people and children from different homes.

During all these visits, the school had taken goody bags with daily essentials for the elderly people and tons of used clothes, toys, food items and shoes for the children.

Meanwhile, the school administrator has acknowledged the dedicated and sincere teachers for their hard works and initiatives and also to the parents who understand the passion and mission behind this project and have willingly donated so much over the week.
