‘Teachers are backbone of education’

1st phase of NISHTHA training prog for Kohima district teachers ends

A five day long integrated teacher’s training under NISHTHA (National Initiative for School Heads & Teachers’ Holistic Advancement) programme concluded here at Christ King Higher Secondary School, P Khel, Kohima Village on February 1.
Commenced on January 28, this is first phase of training at primary level 1-V for Kohima district and conducted by District Mission Authority, Samagra Shiksha Kohima. NISHTHA is a capacity building programme for improving quality of school education through integrated teacher training.
Addressing the valedictory function, Emilo Patton, Deputy Director School Education and NISHTHA State Resource Person (SRP) maintained that education is one of the greatest weapons to bring change in the society. She said that education provides complete set of value of life.
She said teachers are the backbone of education since they are directly involve in the process of children education.
Stating that the performance of students depend on teachers, she said “Quality of learning depend on quality of teaching inside the classroom.”
As teachers, Patton said, “If you fail to perform your duties with sincerity and dedication, you are going to produce a very low quality of human beings.”
She said that the students look upon the teachers not only to learn the different subjects but they look upon the teachers for other aspects of life as well. “As teachers, you are supposed to be accountable for yourself. You need to be accountable to your action and attitude and most importantly you have to be vey accountable to your own students,” she insisted.
Further, she asked the teachers to make sure that they put into action whatever they have learnt from this training and bring positive changes in their respective schools.
The valedictory function was witnessed by presentation on the pedagogy of subject, presentation on leadership, group wise feedback from Kekhriengulie Khezhie, Kedivi Mekro, Kenilo Semp and Yawao Konyak and speech on behalf of the participants by Martin Kath and Ntsenyhun.
The five day long training programme covered pedagogy of languages, pedagogy of mathematics, pedagogy of EVS (social science), leadership module, learning outcomes and SBA in mathematics and science, preparation of classroom/ learning plan, social-personal qualities, inclusive education and POSCO Act, health and well being, etc etc.
The resource persons of the training programme included; Emilo Patton, Sukanya Paul, Peleno Peteneilhou, Yawao Konyak, Medonuo, Grace Yanthan, Bijano Murry, Aneile Nuh, Kenilo Semp, Vikedono Sesa, Kevileno and Edward Aley.
Earlier, Dr Bijano Murry, principal Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire GHSS Seikhazou and NISHTHA State Resource Person chaired the closing function while vote of thanks was proposed by Neivikhono, Project Assistant, DMA Samagra Shiksha Kohima.
