State-level Teachers’ Day celebrated in Kohima; 13 teachers awarded

Nagaland Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio today handed over the State Level Teachers Award 2025 to 13 teachers across Nagaland during the State Level Teachers’ Day celebration in Kohima, organised by Department of School Education, Nagaland.

Addressing the mammoth gathering at NBCC Convention Hall, Dr Rio extended his warmest greetings to every teacher across the state, who continue to nurture and guide the society on the path of knowledge and progress.

Stating that teachers are the backbone of the education system and the guiding light for the children, the Chief Minister said “Your dedication, patience, and commitment have touched countless lives and inspired generations to dream big, work hard, and serve society with integrity. Today is not only a day to honour you but also to reflect on the value of education and the crucial role you play in nation-building.”

In line with National Education Policy 2020, Dr Rio said “We are working to promote mother-tongue-based education.”

The Government is collaborating with Nagaland University for the development and standardization of tribal languages, certification of language teachers, and production of literature, he said.

The Chief Minister pointed out that the Department of School Education is pioneering a convergence approach with the Department of Social Welfare to align foundational stage education more effectively.

“As we move forward, our interventions must remain globally informed and aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4-Quality Education), National Education Policy 2020, National Initiative for Proficiency in Numeracy and Understanding (NIPUN) Bharat Mission and UNESCO's Education 2030 Agenda,” Dr Rio said.

Stating that “our children are our future, and you (Teachers) are the ones holding their hands and guiding them forward, Dr Rio appealed every teacher to continue to nurture curiosity, critical thinking and compassion in students so that they grow up to be responsible citizens, capable leaders, and good human beings.

“Let us collectively renew our commitment to strengthening the teaching profession and ensuring that every child in Nagaland has access to quality education,” Dr Rio said.

Further, he expressed his deepest respect and gratitude to all teachers for their invaluable service to the society.

May your efforts continue to inspire hope and transform lives, he added.

‘Every child deserves to get best education’

Also speaking on the occasion, Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, Advisor School Education & SCERT stated that the pillar of the school education depends on infrastructures.

He said that some education infrastructures are in good condition and some needs attention.

We are making huge strides on those areas, he said.

Stating that the dream of the school education is to ensure that no child is left behind to get education, Dr Yhome said “Every child deserves to get best of the education whether they are at urban, semi urban or most far flung rural areas of Nagaland.”

R. Masakui Rungsung, IFS, Consul General CGI Vancouver, Canada also spoke at the celebration.

Minister for Women Resource Development & Horticulture Salhoutuonuo Kruse gave away School Safety Excellence Awards to GMS Dobagoan, GMS Naga New Model Sumi, St. Joseph’s School Tuensang Town and The Vineyard, Kohima.

Earlier, welcome address was delivered by Kevileno Angami, commissioner & secretary for School Education & SCERT while vote of thanks was proposed by Shashank Pratap Singh, Principal Director, School Education.

Earlier, Rev Fr Jacob Charalel, secretary  CEDOK & vice president, ANPSA invoked God’s blessings.

The programme also witnessed launching of Mission SOAR & introduction of Music in elementary section with Yamaha Inc., performances from Northfield School, Khikha, Kohima, Ruzhukhrie GHSS Kohima and RDNUMS, GMS CWSN Lerie, the lighter side of schooling history by Dreamz Unlimited, tribute to teachers by Vivotsono Keyho (GHS PWD Kohima), Honouring of Teachers by Dr N. Kire GHSS, Kohima, screening of video documentary life sketch of Lt Dr S. Radhakrishnan & Glimpses of the past, gala with DJ Sanaa.

Nelson Yhokha, GMS Phesama and Kikruneinuo Liezietsu, GHS Bayavii  compered the programme.
