Dimapur, June 11 (MExN): The Dimapur Government College Teachers’ Association has slammed Nagaland University for the erroneous Bachelor degree results which were uploaded in the University website. A press release in this regard was issued by Dr. Maongsangba, President, DGCTA, and Limanaro, General Secretary, DGCTA, making it clear that the ‘unprofessional manner’ in handling the result declaration has ‘appalled and shocked’ the teaching faculty of Dimapur Government College.
The statement expressed concern that while students sat exams in Nagaland, and their exam papers examined and evaluated in Nagaland, the blunder emanated from a Bangalore based firm, Infratel MindLogicsx, who were in charge of handling the NU Exam result declaration. The statement cautioned that the students should not be utilized as ‘Guinea pigs’ to promote firms such as Infratel Mind Logicx, further adding that while DGCTA has no objection per se to promoting any company, the benefits of promoting such companies should percolate down to the students.
DGCTA revealed that an RTI had unearthed many anomalies and discrepancies of the online delivery of Question papers and online evaluation of the Nagaland University Exams 2011, which had the potential to snowball into a major controversy. The statement informed that the association, in good faith had put on hold the follow up steps, considering that the University opted to dispense with the online system, which was proven to be faulty. Stating that the erroneous delivery of results reveals that despite doing away with online delivery of question and online evaluation, the hangover of the flawed mechanism continues to dog the University. In this backdrop, the association advised that the University authority would do well to remember that it is their responsibility to enlighten all stake holders over this development, further adding that the teaching fraternity having evaluated the papers never expected that NU results conundrum will radiate from down south.
DGCTA reminded that in the University scheme of things, the Examination Branch is supposed to be classified, that must be handled with professionalism, and that in normal practice, considering the sensitive nature of exams and its related issue, verification and cross-checking is done before it is made public. However, the DGCTA alleged, Infrtel MindLogicx and the University authority chose the other way round, giving the students a harrowing time; demeaning the status and prestige of the University.
The association further stated that the ‘Technical failure and Link problem’, which the University officials put up, was nothing but an escape route to conceal human failure, and added that to pass the buck on technological breakdown is yet another assault on the intellect of an enlightened civil society.
DGCTA asked for a probe into the ‘havoc’ created by the ‘little–known firm’ and demanded that the modus operandi of the firm in matters relating to NU Examinations be brought to light. The association also insisted that the University authority ensures that no individual or group of individuals under the garb of technological innovative mission be allowed to thrive in Nagaland University at the peril of a student’s career. The association further implored the Vice Chancellor to investigate the entire gamut of conundrum, streamline NU Examination Branch; and refurbish the image of Nagaland University.
