‘Teachers: Transformational leaders’

Kohima, April 5 (MExN): A seminar on the theme ‘Teachers: Transformational leaders’ was held at State College of Teacher Education (SCTE) multipurpose hall Kohima on April 5. 

According to a DIPR report, the seminar is jointly organised by SCTE Kohima along with M. Ed 4th semester and IQSC. The seminar is organised to enable teachers to be efficient, effective and to bring about a shift in their role to be proactive and innovative in school and the society.

Speaking at the seminar Additional Director Dr. Watijungshi said that our nation is going through a tremendous educational reformation by the introduction of many new methodologies and research findings thereby, bringing many new changes in the educational system. 

He said that the National Eligibility Test (NET) and Academic & Administrative Audit (AAA) the two quality assessment methodology introduced by UGC in all the collages have bought about new changes in the quality of education in Nagaland. He also lauded the SCTE College for being one of the best performing colleges and also imparting quality education in Nagaland.

Also talking about the equality of education in Nagaland where there are 15 government colleges and 44 private colleges he said, that all these colleges should get equal opportunities. He further added that the infrastructure does not matter so long as the colleges are producing quality students. He also remarked that in the educational field female are dominating and doing much better in our state. 

He said that the M.Ed students are teachers of teachers and play an important role in transforming the teachers to become leaders not only in the classroom but for the society and the church.

Dr. Bendangyapangla, Faculty In-charge, M.Ed in her welcome address, said that the college has completed five years and is moving forward for permanent affiliation with Nagaland University this year. She also mentioned that this college is the first college in Nagaland to introduce PG course and that the M.Ed programme is a professional programme which has been visualized to prepare personnel who can work as policy makers in education, curriculum specialists and also administrators and leaders. This seminar was conducted for students to not only experience the academic aspects but for them to get hands on training on leadership where they would learn the qualities it took to become a great leader. She further remarked that as a concept of leadership changes from generation to generation, in the 21st century the students should base their leadership on teamwork and be more flexible in nature.
