Dimapur, June 2 (MExN): The Team Dimapur led by State Nodal Officer for Dimapur Y Kikheto Sema, IAS with the Commissioner of Police, SDO (Civil) Sadar and District Immunization Officer visited various centres in Dimapur engaged in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

During their visit to Lions Club where vaccination is being conducted since April 13, the Team was briefed that so far around 7000 beneficiaries have been vaccinated in the centre.

In the Bishop’s House, they visited the Diocese of Kohima COVID-19 (DKCTF) Task Force Control Room where Peace Channel collects information, disseminate, coordinate and process the information and connect with people who are in need of various services.

Fr CP Anto, Director of Peace Channel, during an interaction said that DKCTF is carrying out pastoral, Christian and humanitarian services to the people. “The Task Force is exploring the possibility of financial assistance to the families who have lost their bread winner due to COVID and also exploring of starting two COVID Centres shortly,” a DIPR report stated.

The Team visited proprietors of M/s Medico, Dimapur, Basu Damani and Arvind Damani and appreciated them for their initiative of providing free medicines to all COVID patients from entire state who cannot afford the medicines from open market.

The Team proceeded to SD Jain Charitable Centre under Jain Samaj, Dimapur where the centre is being utilized as vaccination centre since April 14. The management of the centre briefed the Team that around 500 beneficiaries have been vaccinated as of now, and on June 2, reportedly 198 persons were vaccinated.

Kikheto during the visits observed that Nagas are not coming forward for vaccination as they have not realized that vaccination is the greatest weapon to fight against the pandemic. During the visit to Lions Club vaccination centre, Kikheto was dismayed to notice that only one local Pastor availed vaccination after he had attempted for more than two weeks for vaccination.

He asserted that death rate on non-vaccinated death is alarmingly high rate of about 95% which is a matter of great concern. He urged the Medical Department and District Administration to disseminate the information about the availability of vaccine, place and other related information to the people through print media and other social media platforms. District Immunization Officer, Dr Rebecca informed that due to poor connectivity, vaccination of all age groups in rural areas is allowed 'on the spot' registration from May 31.

Kikheto on behalf of the State government and Team Dimapur extended gratitude to all civil societies, Churches, NG0s, families and individuals for coming forward to fight the dreaded virus collectively.

The immense responses received from the people irrespective of tribe, caste, religion, political affiliations etc has greatly boosted the morale of the frontline workers. “Collectively, we will win the war,” he asserted.
