In a collaborative effort between the Tuensang Village Students’ Union (TVSU) and the Tuensang Village Gazetted Officers’ Club (TVGOC), a new study center named ‘Thaibüng’ was inaugurated in Tuensang village on April 27.

Described as a pioneering initiative in the region, Er Chingmak Chang, Executive Engineer of the Water Resource Department in Tuensang, emphasised the collective nature of the endeavour. He highlighted the challenges faced by graduates and postgraduates in the village aspiring to pursue civil service careers due to economic constraints.

‘Thaibüng,’ which translates to a society or organization for the promotion of learning, will provide a conducive environment for aspiring civil servants. Initially accommodating eight learners, the center will operate under the supervision of TVSU and mentorship from TVGOC, with visiting tutors available daily from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the office premises.

TVSU President Tochi expressing gratitude for the support received, noted contributions from various well-wishers, including Sentilong, SDO (C) Tuensang, who donated computer sets, printers, projectors, and a plasma TV for the study center. Er Chingmak provided and installed Wi-Fi connectivity.

Emphasising the collaborative learning aspect, Chingmak clarified that ‘Thaibüng’ is not a coaching center but a space for mutual learning facilitated by mentors.

The establishment of ‘Thaibüng’ follows the successful implementation of ‘Sochüm,’ a hostel for class 10 and 12 students initiated by TVSU in 2018. Offering free tuition and basic hostel facilities, ‘Sochüm’ has already contributed to academic success, with 11 out of 15 students qualifying in the recently declared HSLC and HSSLC results of NBSE.

The launch event witnessed participation from leaders and dignitaries from various village organizations, reflecting a collective endorsement of the initiative.

Expressing optimism about the impact of the initiative, C Tochi, president of Tuensang Sang Staff Thangjam (TSST), stressed the importance of sacrifices and mindset change toward societal betterment.

Acknowledging the need for discipline and positive habits among learners, N Kaimang, president of the Tuensang Village Citizen’s Union (TVCU), emphasised the significance of self-control.

Echoing the sentiment of collective support, Amen, president of the women’s organization of Tuensang village, called for unity and goodwill toward the cause of education.

The launch concluded with a prayer led by Rev T Mongba, pastor of Tuensang Sang Baptist Lashong.
