DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 4 (MExN): On the occasion of Teachers' Day, which is celebrated on September 5, Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi led the country in greeting the teaching community.
Paying tribute to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on his birth anniversary while terming him as an eminent statesman and educationist, PM Modi hoped that the nation continue to be guided by “our enlightened teachers and build a future of this great nation.”
Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Upendra Kushwaha in his message said teachers are true nation-builders and paid glowing tribute to the teaching community. He exhorted them to continue to contribute towards making this great nation stronger.
Governor calls for re-dedication
Nagaland Governor, PB Acharya also extended greetings to teachers throughout Nagaland who are engaged in building and strengthening the intellectual and ethical foundations of the children.
According to a DIPR report, the Governor, on the occasion, called upon all teachers to widen the horizon of the thinking of students and encourage them to reflect critically about broader issues concerning the Nation, society and the environment.
“Our goal must be to create good citizens who are capable of preserving the past and creating the future,” the Governor stated. He said the influences and experiences a teacher share with the students will remain with them for a lifetime.
Also maintaining that teachers should be a game changer and socially accountable, the Governor stated, “Our students, when they come out, must be an asset to the society, employable, create wealth out of our natural resources.”
While calling upon the teachers for re-dedication to this task and duty, the Governor said lessons in good citizenship inculcated at a young age will go a long way in creating a better society- which could be as simple as traffic rules, cleanliness, gender sensitization, concern for the weak and reverence for the elders.
Teachers have played pivotal role: CM
Nagaland Chief Minster Neiphiu Rio also extended greetings to all the teachers and thanked them for the efforts made for creating citizens of tomorrow. The Chief Minister highlighted that Teachers' Day is celebrated in honour of the birth anniversary of former President, Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan who was not only an outstanding scholar, diplomat, and a leader but most importantly also a teacher. He said teachers are guides to thousands of students and students are the building blocks of the society. “We all remember the teachers who have made a difference in our lives. Their guidance and encouragement helps students to build their character and shape them to become ideal citizens of the country.” In Nagaland context, the Chief Minister said teachers have made sacrifices for the well being of students. He commended both the government and private school teachers in playing a pivotal role. “At times, it may feel that the teachers deserve more material help and support - but the blessings of students and parents are more valuable than other benefits,” he added.
