The Hornbill Festival 2021 extension event has reached Phek district. Nagaland Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs, Neiba Kronu inaugurated “The Pfutsero Experience- An Extension of the Hornbill Festival 2021” at Glory Peak, Pfutsero on December 2.
Pfutsero lies 70 km away from Nagaland's state capital Kohima.
Speaking on the occasion, Kronu said that Nagaland has potential to flourish its economy through farming and tourism industry. He said that apart from rich cultural heritage, he said that Nagaland has a lot to offer to tourists in terms of adventure and eco-tourism.
He said that “Pfutsero Experience,” is just a beginning and asked the people to ponder over a comprehensive strategy and wholesome package to broaden the horizon of tourism industry within Pfutsero Sub Division. He said that efforts be made to ensure that the tourism related activities taking place throughout the year, as Pfutsero area possesses many packages to offer to visitors.
One can view Himalayan range and Saramati from Pfutsero, he said.
Among the many tourist attraction spots within Pfutsero sub division included, Pfutsero Town Baptist Church located in highest altitude, Kapamadzu peak, Japanese cave during 2nd World War, Battle of Kikruma 1851 at Kikruma, Frozen lake, trekking route from Glory Peak to Chida, ancient beauty contest spot at Leshemi, AZ Phizo’s hide-out site etc.
“Efforts are on to make such areas as a tourist destination,” he said. He also stressed on the need to put in place the home stay facility in every village.
Pfutsero additional deputy commissioner Japheth Woch thanked the state government for bringing Hornbill Festival event to Pfutsero and Kalos Society for their tireless effort towards organizing “The Pfutsero Experience” event. He informed that discussion is on to make Pfutsero town as “plastic free town” for eco- friendlily tourism.
Dr Wenyitso Kapfo said that the festival, which will continue till December 10, will be marked by food festival, nature walk, indigenous games, offroading, night carnival, concert, bamboo climbing, flower exhibition, Karoke night, kids corner, tree-top walk, trust-box sale, etc. MLA Kezhienyi Khalo, Chakhesang Public Organization president Mikha Kenye and other dignitaries also present at the inaugural function. The programme was chaired by Kalos Society Director Kupelhi Losou. The programme was followed by inter-ward tug of war competition.
Later, Kronu graced the evening carnival of the 4th edition of “People’s Festival Khezhakeno” at Chida Resort Khezhakeno organized Khezhakeno Youth Organization in collaboration with Tourism Department, Nagaland.
“People’s Festival Khezhakeno” will continue till December 4.
