“The Blessed one” as his name means, Thejaselhou Kire of Little Star Higher Secondary School achieved what every student in Nagaland has dreamed of by securing the highest percentage – 94.66% in the HSLC NBSE examination, 2012. Not only that, but Theja was also awarded Student of the Year in 2011.

The humble lad with a smile said he did not expect to be in “top 1”. “...I thank God for his blessings.” When asked how many hours he normally studied in a day, Theja coyly said: “...around 7 hours”, stating that anyone can achieve with ‘hard work, sincerity and punctuality’. Also, he said obedience to teachers and parents is one of the keys to success.

Conveying a message to his juniors and other aspirants, he said one should not depend wholly on ‘notes given by teachers’ but to read text books and understand the subject thoroughly, adding that subject discussions with friends and teachers is a must, if one is keen to learn something different from the rest.

Querying on his future plans, he said he wants to pursue higher secondary course from Science College Jotsoma and hopefully if God’s will, later he wants to go for computer engineering. On which his aunt said: “...he is very good in Hindi and he has even told us he wants to become a ‘Hindi preacher’ in future so he will be juggling two things together.”

Theja’s grandmother who was also present said: “...I am so happy about my grandson Theja’s achievement and I praise God for his blessing. I am hoping his younger brothers will also bring laurels to our family.” She also said with a smile, Theja in Tenyidie means ‘blessing’.

Moreover, Theja’s parents said they are so happy with their son’s success and hoping that their other two sons would follow the same path.
