Mon, June 11 (DIPR): Minister for Forest, Environment, Ecology, and Wildlife & Excise, MC Konyak said that Mon district which is the largest district in the State, shares her border with Myanmar and Assam. He informed that “there is influx of narcotics and contraband from Myanmar via Chen and Longwa and via Tizit and Naginimora from Assam.”
He stated this at the formal inauguration of the new office building of Superintendent of Excise, Mon in the presences of Government officers led by Deputy Commissioner, Mon Angau I. Thou and NGOs on June 7. In his inaugural speech, MC Konyak stated that this is a challenge for the Exercise department, he appealed to the officers and Excise personnel to be very active in their assignment and stop entry of narcotics and contraband from its neighbour.
The Minister also informed that in order to strengthen the Excise personnel, arms would be provided to the Excise personnel shortly and the department would discharge their duty in collaboration with the District Administration and the District Executive Force. MC Konyak also enumerated some of the major achievement of his department such as Construction of Staffs Quarter Complex, construction of Commissioner’s office, acquisition of land, etc. He also pointed out that the department is yet to construct Staffs quarter and provide vehicle for mobile checking in the district.
Speaking on behalf of the Excise department, N. Lotha Deputy Commissioner Excise, Narcotic Cell, Nagaland Dimapur said that with the construction of SE Office, Mon the long felt needs of the department had been fulfilled and lauded the Minister for his innovative ideas. He also urged upon the NGOs and the government agencies to extend support and cooperation to the Excise department to enable the department to carry out their duty effectively.
The programme was chaired by Superintendent of Excise, Mon, Jongpong Sangtam and invocation was proposed by Pastor KBCM, Nahngom. The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Inspector of Excise, Mon, Phuton.
