Dr Kevichusa Medikhru, Mission Director, National Health Mission addressing the inaugural of Thilixu Sub-Center upgraded to Health and Wellness Center on October 31.
Dimapur, October 31 (MExN): The Thilixu Sub-Center was upgraded to Health and Wellness Center (HWC) on October 31.
It was inaugurated by Dr Kevichusa Medikhru, Mission Director, National Health Mission, Nagaland.
Dr Kevichusa in his inaugural speech stated that Health & Wellness Center (HWC) is a part of the Government of India’s initiative under Ayushman Bharat to provide to free access to healthcare and provide comprehensive primary health care. The other component of Ayushman Bharat being the Pradhan Mantra Jan Arogya Yojana which provides free access for those needing special hospitalization and treatment.
He further informed that the HWC has been created by transforming the existing sub-center and would deliver comprehensive primary health care bringing healthcare closer to the homes of people covering both maternal and child health services and non-communicable diseases, including free essential drugs and diagnostic services and recently telemedicine as well.
He stated that nowadays, most people suffer from non-communicable disease such as hypertension, diabetes, cancer, etc which in the future leads to cancer, kidney or heart problems. These major illnesses can be easily prevented if treated early. Thus, the HWC will provide comprehensive primary health care services as well as screen for NCD and cancer, he said and added that a Community Health Officer (CHO) who has been trained especially to provide these services would be posted in the HWC.
Dr Kevichusa urged the community to avail these services provided at their door steps and requested the community to take ownership of the health center and provide their support and cooperation to the health staff.
Dr H Hotokhu Chishi, Director (Dental) stated that the opening of a health center is for the upliftment of the community, therefore, the community should avail the services provided. Unless the community uses the services provided, the need of the community will not be reflected in the HWC performance and thus no further improvement will be granted to the health center.
He further stated that as the coverage area of the health unit is large, the community must cooperate and support the health staff when needed. He also lauded that the health unit building was solely built by the Thilixu community.
Nikhevi Yeptho, Chairman, Thilixu Village Council, while welcoming the guests, also declared that the Thilixu community would provide any additional land or room needed for a fully functional health unit.
Prior to the function, the dedication of the HWC and invocation prayer was delivered by Rev Dr Hevukhu Achumi, Senior Pastor, TVBC. The function was chaired by Dr Mereninla Senlem, CMO Dimapur while a special song was performed by Ithito Kiba.
Vote of thanks was delivered by Hecto Kiba, Atokukau Thilixu village and benediction was pronounced by Esther, Women Pastor, TVBC.
Other officials attending the function were Dr Kheshito Zhimo, Jt. Director, Dr Kuveduyi Theyo, MS, Dr Antoly, Dy CMO, Dr Benchilo, DTO, Dr Rebecca, DPO, Dr Kheshika, SMO, DPMU staff, HWC staff and members of the village council.
