Thongtso Incident: Dy CM assures justice, appeals for peace

Kohima, November 20 (MExN): Expressing concern over the incident at Thongtso village in Noklak district which resulted in loss of life and property, Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister (Dy CM) Y Patton on Friday said that the State Government would help in ensuring that befitting punishment is awarded to those found guilty.

In a statement issued by the Media cell of the Dy CMO, Patton who also heads the State Home department conveyed the government’s seriousness in resolving the issue.

“…Immediately on learning about the incident, a team led by DGP and Commissioner Nagaland were rushed to the area to take stock of the situation. Adequate police force was deployed immediately in the sensitive areas and a SIT has been constituted under Senior SP rank Officer to go into a detailed probe into the incident,” he said.

Adding that the situation has been ‘brought under control’, the Dy CM appealed for peace and tranquility “as the law will take its own course for punishing the culprits.”

He further appealed to the people and all the tribal leaders of Eastern Nagaland to continue extending all possible cooperation and support the Government for peaceful co-existence among the Nagas as one family.

Patton further asserted that after examination of the reports, the State government would initiate all possible help and assistance to those affected in the incident and prayed for early return of normalcy in the area.
