The main road leading to Thonoknyu Subdivision under Noklak District has been cut off on June 21 after landslides carried away portions of the road.

Due to massive mudslide triggered by incessant rainfall, road blockade were also reported at several location along the stretch.

Khiamniungan Tribal Council General Secretary, NSM Pakhiu, who visited some of the sites on June 22, told The Morung Express that the landslide occurred Tuesday evening and about half of the road stretch that had been blacktopped was taken away.

Restoration works resumed only this morning and due to instability of the road and mudslide, it was uncertain as to whether restoration would be completed at the earliest, he said.

‘The restoration work will continue until the blockades are cleared,’ Pakhiu added. Thonoknyu Subdivision is one of the three subdivisions under Noklak district, and is located about 35 kilometres away from the district Headquarters Noklak town.
