Mokokchung | August 3
Throttle Thrust III organized by Spearhead Motorsport Initiative was held on August 2 and 3 coinciding with the Tsüngremmung Festival at the picturesque Longkhum village, about 20 kilometers west of Mokokchung town.
The competition was held under three categories – Below 1300 CC, Above 1300 CC and SUV – where a total of 50 participants from Nagaland, Assam, Meghalaya and Delhi competed in what could be termed as one of the greatest motorsport events ever held in Nagaland. What set Throttle Thrust III apart from the other motorsport events in the state was the inclusion of ‘Hill climb’ competition, the first ever in Nagaland. In the ‘Hill climb’ stage, the racers maneuvered their vehicles through a 4-kilometer uphill drive starting at Alichen 2nd Gate and ending at Longkhum village ground. The autocross segment of the competition was held at village ground, Longkhum.
Of the 50 participants, 18 were from Mokokchung that proves the growing number of motorsport enthusiasts in this corner of the country. ‘Rookie of the Year’ award of Throttle Thrust III was selected exclusively from the ‘local’ participants from Mokokchung with the objective of promoting local talents. There were 27 competitors in the Below 1300 CC category, 12 in the Above 1300 CC category and 11 in the SUV category.
The closing and prize distribution ceremony of Throttle Thrust III was held in the presence of the chief patron of the event and Nagaland PWD Minister, Tongpang Ozüküm.
