Tikhir Tribal Council on YTC’s invitation

Kuisam Town (Kiphire), December 12 (MExN):  The Tikhir Tribal Council (TTC), the Apex body of the Tikhir Public Organisation, on December 12 informed of its inability to attend a meeting called by Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC) on December 15.

In a press release, the TTC said that “taking into consideration the Tikhir general public interest and consensus that till the recognition of Tikhir Tribe by the Government of Nagaland no sort of meetings whether to work out modalities or any other etc shall not be held between the TTC and YTC.”

‘After recognition of Tikhir Tribe if so desired, joint Tribal Council meeting between TTC and YTC shall take place only in presence of Third Party i.e. Government of Nagaland,’ it added.

Accordingly, the TTC will not be attending the December 15 meeting and the inconvenience caused is deeply regretted, stated the press release issued by TTC President Topan K Tikhir  and General Secretary, W Tothong Philip.

The release was issued in the backdrop of a statement from  YTC on December 11 inviting Tikhir community leaders to the its office in Shamator town on December 15 to work out the modalities “as per our customary law and practices” with regard to the matter on recognition of the Tikhir tribe.
