Kiphire | August 16 : Thousands of people from Tikhir Tribal Council (TTC) and Tikhir Students Union (TSU), holding banners and placards today marched from Police Point Kiphire to Deputy Commissioner’s office to submit a three point ultimatum to the Chief Secretary through the DC Kiphire. The ultimatum is on the Yimchunger Tribal Council silent procession at Tuensang on August 12 demanding the state government to declare TTC as illegal organization and branding Tikhir Tribal leaders as terrorist leaders and book/arrest the president and joint secretary of TTC.
Addressing the gathering, TTC and TSU leaders highlighted the reasons for holding the procession and also stated that “we are not slaves and we are proud to have an identity.” Interacting with The Morung Express, leaders of TTC said, “DC Kiphire has assured to forward the ultimatum to the government.”
The ultimatum in three point charters of demands reads to arrest Yimchunger tribal leaders for false allegation and targeting TTC leaders on or before August 31; To immediately shift or vacate the Yimchunger Tribal Council and Yimchunger Baptist Borubo Amukhongto office Hq from Shamator town as the land belong to the Tikhir and to the state government to declare Tikhir as the recognized tribe.
