Kiphire | August 4 : Festival-a time for merry making and a time to renew friendship with fellow neighbours and friends, which is a sign of peace and progress, is proved the other way round with tribal council and students union opposing each other due to dispute over the ownership of land. Around 300 volunteers of Tikhir Tribal Council and Tikhir Student Union put up a banner and constructed a gate at Pasamikiu (Anatonger village) on NH 202 from 3 August to restrict the movement of vehicle/ persons attending the Metemniu cum cultural festival to be held at Shamator from 4-8 August.
The Tikhir Student Union also directed its members not to harass any passengers during the on-going agitation/protest as the agitation/ protest is in the form of Non Violence. Chairman TSU who was also at the site commented “God created us and our identity is still there also and added we are not against the festival but against the place (Shamator) as it is a dispute land”. Some of the banner which is put up on the road side reads ‘Shamator is a land of Tikhir, let the government deliver justice’.
It may be mentioned that the Tikhir Tribal council also submitted a memorandum to the government on 22/07/2011 opposing the Metemnyeo cum cultural festival to be held at Shamator.
